The championship is the UK's premier single-seater category, and is aimed at young racing drivers moving up from FIA Formula 4 championships or Karting.
Introduced in 2016, the Tatuus-Cosworth MSV F4-016 – was a brand new chassis designed and developed in order to bridge the gap between the first step of single seaters to EuroFormula Open and the FIA Formula 3 Championships.
The BRDC British Formula 3 Championship is run by MSVR and comprises 24 races across eight events. The weekend format includes a 20-minute qualifying session and three 20 minute races – testing is not limited like so many championship, and is also a common feature in the days leading up to the race weekend.
The car features a fully carbon fibre chassis and a four cylinder normally aspirated Cosworth engine producing 230bhp at 8000rpm while remaining on Pirelli tyres.
In 2020, a revised aerodynamic kit improved the performance of the cars to bridge the gap between British F4 and EuroFormula Open - giving drivers the best stepping stone up the ladder of the junior single-seater ladder.
A significantly enhanced TV offering for this season’s BRDC British F3 Championship means the majority of races will be streamed live online for the first time. This strengthens British F3’s comprehensive free-to-air broadcast package, which includes the extension of MSV’s partnership with ITV to broadcast a one-hour highlights show on ITV4.
Most of the Sunday races, including those at Spa-Francorchamps, will be streamed live on the internet in full-HD 1080p quality, and will feature detailed on-screen graphics showing race positions and intervals between drivers.
Multiple Ginetta Junior champion outfit Elite Motorsport will join the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship grid in 2021 in place of Lanan Racing.
